The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
These words were read by Jesus in the synagogue on Nazareth when he returned as an adult to visit his childhood home. He was not welcomed because the people knew him as the son of Joseph. When did he become the Messiah? Jesus told them that day that those words were being fulfilled in their sight.
For us today living in our sad world, these words need to lived out as we follow Jesus. We have the Spirit of Jesus living in us and we need to take these words to heart and show our communities, workplace, neighborhoods, social media the mission of Jesus. It has never changed.
