Then Jesus answered, “Will you really lay down your life for me? Very truly I tell you, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times!
Peter had just declared that he was willing to die for Jesus and he meant every word. He had great intentions and he was motivated by love for his Master.
But Peter was also very human but when fear became a greater motivator than love he did exactly as Jesus predicted.
Jesus told the disciples that he was going to be betrayed and he told Peter that he would deny him. Jesus knew the future. The Father had given him all authority.
Our intentions may be motivated by the best of motives but unless we are totally surrendered to GOD we will still give in to our human nature.
