His disciples stared at one another, at a loss to know which of them he meant. One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to him. Simon Peter motioned to this disciple and said, “Ask him which one he means.”
Jesus was troubled in spirit and he couldn't hold it in any longer. He knew what was going to happen, he knew the hurt and pain that would be coming shortly and he wanted to share with his closest friends how he was feeling.
The disciples were shocked to hear the word, 'betrayal'. The 13 of them had been together for almost 3 years and as much as they fight amongst each other, betrayal was a foreign concept to 11 of them.
Jesus and Judas knew who the betrayer was.
