Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.”
'... But later you will understand'! How many times have we said these words to our children. Experience, wisdom and time change our perspectives. When we are young we tend to look at things in a more concrete form, impatient at the world and our parents for not being smart enough to figure it all out quickly.
A few years down the word we are amazed at how wise our parents really were. The lessons they tried to teach us as teenagers were rejected but as we become parents we teach our kids those very same lessons of love, forgiveness, patience, understanding, etc.
Jesus was teaching his disciples valuable lessons as he was saying goodbye. They remembered them after he was gone.
To be continued
