Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God;
Jesus was in complete control of his mission to redeem mankind. Nothing was taking him by surprise. He knew that he came from God and he was positively confident that he was returning to God.
The writer of Hebrews tells us that Jesus saw the joy set before him and he endured the cross despising the shame. He knew he would be sitting at the right hand of God again very soon.
Sometimes the crucifixion is told in such a way that emphasizes the suffering of Jesus and somehow we tend to forget that he was given authority by the Father. His body was weak as he was beaten, battered and abused but his mind remained strong because he knew how the story would end. He would take everything that Satan threw at him and would emerge victorious.
Knowledge is power and Jesus knew he was returning to his rightful place as King of the universe.
