In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.
These words are a reminder that our Creator did not make us robots but he gave us individual wills and choices within certain parameters. He wants us to be creative, to use our intelligence to design, to solve problems, to plan courses but he reserves the right to establish our steps, to direct our paths and to change the course as he alone knows best what is good for us.
Wise children of God always defer to HIM when plans get change because we know that in the end all things will work out for our best and God will be glorified.
When we realize that our purpose on earth is to love God firstly, serve him worthily and get to know him intimately we will gladly welcome his counsel and instructions in our lives.
