PAUSE FOR A MOMENT - January 13

Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Where did we get the idea that the Lord God is a mean, punishing God who is always on patrol trying to catch us doing wrong?

Where did the lie that God gleefully waits to get us for every wrong thing that we do come from?

I have been a student of Scripture since I learned to read at 4 years old and I have never come across this horrible mean God.

The God that I have discovered is a God of bountiful love, compassion and mercy. He cares more about ME than he cares about my sinful habits and behaviors. When I go to him in tears because 'I messed up again', he reassures me that one day this fleshly, weak body of mine will be transformed into a glorious body and sin will be a thing of the past.

He tells me in the meantime, not to fear because he is with me, not to be discouraged because he will strengthen and help me, he will hold me up with his righteous and steadfast, loving hand.

Seriously, where did this mean, horrible, 'can't wait to get you' false god come from?
