1 Peter 4:8
Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
I try to read into this verse the idea that sins should always be exposed, we should confess our sins openly, know that whatever is done in the dark will come to light, be sure our sins will find us out.
I am not sure this is what Peter is trying to tell us. He was present with Jesus when the woman who was caught in adultery was dragged before him. His accusers were urging Jesus to make a decision about whether she should be stoned or not as Moses commanded. Jesus replied, 'he who is without sin cast the first stone', ignored their questions but started writing in the sand. One by one they left and the woman was alone before Jesus.
What I am learning from this verse is that when I acknowledge I am a sinner and you do the same, judging each other becomes a lose/lose situation. When I extend to you acceptance and forgiveness, we both win.
