Let us praise our Creator for another day to be alive and for bringing us through 2016. Thoughts of inspiration for this first day of the year is from the words of Paul as he spoke of a very important goal to him.
Philippians 3:13-14
But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
As we read this chapter in the book of Philippians we see that Paul had some clear goals in mind.
In verse 10 he states - I want to know Christ. He did not just want a superficial relationship with Christ, he wanted to know Christ intimately.
He said he wanted to know the power of his resurrection. He was not ok with just the knowledge that Christ rose from the dead, he wanted to know the power behind that resurrection.
Paul also wanted to know how he could attain the ability to participate in Christ suffering, becoming like him in his death and obtaining the same resurrection from the dead.
Paul wanted to go deeper in his relationship with Jesus. The ultimate prize for Paul was resurrection from the dead. What is it about Christ that makes a mortal body come to life again?
Knowing Christ intimately is what it takes to win the great prize of resurrection from the dead. One day, along with Paul, we will attain this goal and this great prize as our mortal bodies are resurrected from the dead.
John 17:3 states, 'And this is eternal life that they know you, the only true God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.'
May 2017 be the year when we will seek to know the only true God and Jesus Christ whom HE sent to reveal GOD to us.
