Then Job answered the Lord : “I am unworthy—how can I reply to you? I put my hand over my mouth. Job 40:3-4
Citizens of the New Kingdom are encouraged to follow Job's example when we realize that we have fallen into sin. Instead of making excuses, blaming others and blaming God for not being fair we need to cover our mouths and acknowledge our unworthiness before God.
Citizens of the New Kingdom should be like the tax collector in the story that Jesus told about attitudes in prayer. The Pharisee was very boastful about how righteous he was, even thanking God that he was not like the tax collector beside him. The tax collector, on the other hand bowed his head, beat his breast and pleaded with God for mercy. King Jesus approved of the tax collector's approach before God.
May we recognize our unworthiness and acknowledge that without King Jesus we cannot stand before God. He is not impressed with our boasting about how good we think we are.
