From that time on (V 12 - John was put in prison) Jesus began to preach, ' Repent for the Kingdom of heaven has come near'.
Jesus, our King proclaimed 2000 years ago that the kingdom of heaven was within the reach of the people.
A new day had dawned in the land of Israel and their King was being revealed to them every day.
When we become Citizens of this new kingdom we are changed. It starts with repentance and believing that Jesus is King.

Citizens Of The New Kingdom - February 2
February 2
'Men of Galilee', they said, 'why do you stand here looking at the sky?' Jesus has been taken from you into heaven. But he will come back in the same way you saw him go! Acts 1:11
Citizens of the New Kingdom live every day believing the words of the 'two men dressed in white clothing' concerning Jesus. We know that King Jesus went up into heaven and that he was alive when he left this earth.
The promise is that he will return the same way he went up into the clouds. He is going to come back to earth from above. Very soon the command will be given to go rescue his citizens from Earth and establish the Kingdom of Righteousness. Are we eagerly awaiting his return?

Listen I am telling you a mystery. We will not all die. But we shall all be changed. That will happen in a flash, as quickly as you can wink your eye. It will happen when the last trumpet sounds. The trumpet will sound and the dead will be raised to live forever. And we will all be changed. 1 Corinthians 15: 51-52
Our King is coming back. He will come back with great fanfare to show the whole world that he is King.
All citizens who have died physically will rise up to to their new body which will never die again. Their spirits which went to be with the King at death will rejoin their eternal body.
Citizens who are still alive will be changed instantly into their new eternal body and will never die physically. What a Glorious Future!

Purpose
A very good friend of mine recently recommended
the book by Myles Munroe, 'In Pursuit Of Purpose' and I have been enjoying Myles' unique perspective.
Today as I meditated on God's Word, the verse the Holy Spirit brought to me was Mark 8:34 ... whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.
The cross always seems like a paradox, negative because Jesus suffered and died but positive because the cross provided the means of salvation and redemption.
Hebrews 12:2 ...for the joy set before him (Jesus) he endured the cross, scorning it's shame and sat down at the right hand of God.
This is the perfect example of purpose.
Luke 9:51 'As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.'
Jesus knew his purpose and he did not try to avoid it. He knew he was going to die but he resolutely set out for Jerusalem. His earthly purpose was the cross but his heavenly purpose was the redemption of mankind. The heavenly purpose trumps the earthly purpose every time and so there is joy in fulfilling the earthly purpose even if it means temporary suffering and death.
Taking up my cross means fulfilling my earthly purpose knowing that there is a heavenly purpose associated with it. This knowledge brings me joy as I pursue my earthly purpose.
Let us keep in our minds on our heavenly purpose as we joyfully fulfill our earthly purpose.
