A Letter From Abba...

My Dearest Daughter,

When you opened your eyes this morning I was right there beside you. In fact, I watched you as you were sleeping and I said, 'This is my daughter whom I love, I am very pleased with you'.

I want you to know that I will never leave nor forsake you. I am your Creator and I am holding on to you. You do not need to be afraid of anything or anyone because I am your light and your salvation.

I want you to take a moment and be still in my Presence, then you will be certain of what you already know, I AM GOD.  I am the same God who parted the Red Sea, brought water from a rock, fed five thousand people with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fishes and I am taking care of you and all your situations today.

Let not your heart be troubled for I have good plans for you. Plans to bless you and to give you a future.

I am looking forward to spending some time with you today.

Love you now and forever,

Your ABBA

no other gods...

Thou shall have no other gods before me. Exodus 20:3; For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.                   1Samuel 15:23

In this 21st century we hear the command to have ‘no other gods’ before YAHWEH and our minds invariably turn to images and statues that the people of the ancient world would create and then worship.

We think of the golden calf that the people of Israel proclaimed brought them out of Egypt. We think of Baal and the pantheons of gods that the Greeks and Romans served, and in our smugness, we declare like the rich young ruler of Jesus’ time (Luke 18), “I have kept all these commandments from my youth up”.

Believers today do not have a problem with golden images and the worship of idols such as Baal, but does this mean that we do not have a problem with idolatry?

  • Who or what gets our worship today?
  • Are we making gods out of material things, religious rituals, accomplishment, beauty/appearance, friendships, careers and addictions, etc.?
  • Do we see disobedience and stubbornness as idolatry?
  • When we know what GOD wants us to do and we refuse, do we see our pride and arrogance as equal to having another ‘god’?
  • What heart idols are we worshiping?
It is not enough to say that I am a believer; my entire being must worship GOD and GOD alone.
My prayer is: Dear God, please give me the strength and the desire to break down the altars that I have built to the idols that I worship in my heart today.

We were made to worship
Worship God alone.
We were made to bow down,
Bow down to God alone.
Why have we erected idols
Idols in our hearts?
Why have we built altars
Altars to worship other gods?

God made us to worship
Worship HIM alone
God made us to turn
Turn our hearts to HIM alone.
When will we turn away,
Away from the worship of other gods?
When will we bow our knees
And our hearts to HIM and HIM alone?

The Treasure of Mary

…The Lord delights in you… Zephaniah 3:17

As I was meditating on God’s word today, my mind drifted to a movie called ‘The Holy Family’ which I watched recently. I remembered thinking as I looked at Mary, innocent, young, carefree, and pure - I would have never been chosen to be the mother of God’s son because I was just not a ‘Mary’. God, the righteous, omnipotent, holy one would not have looked on me as someone worthy to carry Jesus in her body.

Then I heard the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit whispering in my heart, ‘but He has chosen you my child, you have Jesus in your heart right now. Jesus is in you. Jesus is with you. You are chosen to carry his Son.’

I thank my heavenly Father for showing me the truth from his word. Even in the midst of lies and distortions from the evil one, God’s truth still echoes today. He delights in me.

The Treasure of Mary

Shepherds echoing the Angels’ song;
Rejoiced to tell the story;
Marveled at the newborn king;
And this became a treasure of Mary.

The law demands an offering;
Presenting the firstborn son to God;
At the temple, Simeon and Anna honored the Baby;
And this became a treasure of Mary.

Wise men came from far away,
Followed the guiding star;
Presented worthy gifts to Him;
And this became a treasure of Mary.

Jesus grew in favor with God;
Was held in high esteem by man;
From Bethlehem to Calvary’s cross, no longer a Baby;
Yet still remained -The treasure of Mary.

Why are we here; why do you die?
A mother’s heart cried out in agony;
The Savior of the world closed his eyes,
No longer only the treasure of Mary.

And now dear friends as we look back,
And gaze upon the cross of Christ,
Have you made him the treasure of your heart?
Is he the treasure of our lives?

Motivations

I Corinthians 4: 5

…He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart…

At the appointed time God will judge the very motives of our hearts. In this earthly realm we cannot see the true motivation behind the actions that we do as humans. We have learned how to dress, how to speak, how to smile in order that we may impress others. We are taught how to prepare for interviews so that we can be the best candidate for the job. We edit our resumes so that buzz words are included. We do all this to show ourselves to be something we really are not.

Imagine what would happen if for a brief moment the interviewer is given a super power in which he can read the motivation behind our actions. He would know immediately whether or not we are stretching the truth, exaggerating our strengths or out-rightly lying. I wonder how many people would have been rejected for the jobs they were offered.

The fact of the matter is - we cannot lie to God. He sees every motivation behind our actions. He knows when we are trying to impress someone else for selfish reasons; He knows when we are lying in order to cause someone else to sin; He knows whether or not we can be trusted to do the right things for the right reasons and one day he is going to reveal the motivations behind each and every action.

My prayer is that we may live our lives in such a way that when God reveals the motives of our hearts that he will find us seeking his righteousness and not our own sinful and selfish ambitions.

Prayer For 2013

May our lives be like the lighthouse – pointing others to  safety in God’s arms.

May our smiles be filled with joy - drawing others to the fountain of everlasting joy.

May our words be gracious - comforting others along the way.

May our love be the example of showing   others how to live in love and forgiveness.

Let others see Jesus as they observe our lives.

Let others follow in His footsteps as they see us walking the  narrow way.

Let others accept God’s love as we share his promises with them.

May 2013 be the year to praise and glorify God in all things.
