Well Done, good and faithful servant!

Marjpearl Creations web site is open for browsing.

This is graduation season and I am blessed to have received invitations to several high school graduation ceremonies this year. I am very proud of the hard work that made it possible for these young people to proudly walk up in their caps and gowns to receive their diplomas.

One of these young graduates is the valedictorian of her class and I know firsthand how much she sacrificed to receive this honor. When other classmates were going to dances and parties she was studying. In the summertime when others were going to the beach and indulging in frivolities she was working as an intern for NASA. She kept her goals in mind for the four years of high school and it was worth it because she is headed to a prestigious college and has been awarded several scholarships. In her case, talent and hard work made her the success she is.

God's word tells us that it is God who gives us wisdom and knowledge and he also gives us the strength to succeed. It all comes from God. One of my favorite parables is found in Matthew 25 - The Parable of the Talents.
Three servants received three different portions according to their abilities. Two servants worked as hard as they could and doubled their master's investment. The third servant had an attitude problem. He did not feel as important as the other servants. He did not feel as blessed as the other servants. He was not motivated to work for the master and so he buried his portion. He spent his time doing exactly as he pleased not remembering that he was a servant and was supposed to be working. On the day of accountability he actually blamed his master for his own laziness but in the end he had to suffer the consequences of not investing the portion that was given to him.

We have all been given talents and the ability to work hard. We have no excuse for failing to complete the tasks that we have been given. Our Master gives us gifts according to our abilities. We are not going to lose rewards for not accomplishing as much as someone else but we are going to be held accountable for doing nothing and wasting our God-given gifts. We did not all receive 5 talents or 2 talents but we have all received at least 1 talent and we are responsible for what we have been given.

May we never hear the words - You wicked, lazy servant! Let us strive to hear the words - Well Done, good and faithful servants.
